2017 OHIO Top 20 7th Grade
Danny Young #265- from the regular games to the all-star Danny game did not change at all. Danny has been known for his scoring first mindset, which he did do all weekend very well, but what shocked us is he took more pride on the defensive end this camp. Even in the all-star game, he played defense like it was a championship on the line. Adding that piece to his game puts Danny on another level putting him in the talks as one of the best in his class.
Chris Smith #194- there wasn’t a guard in camp that did had a better motor than Chris, from creating his own shot, to blowing by defenders he did it all. His motor changed the game every time he touched the floor, rebounding the ball over bigger players lead to easy coast to coast points. When teams got aware that he liked to penetrate he made nice passes that lead to easy points for his teammates.
Sellers Little #291- one of Dayton’s finest didn’t disappoint anyone that made the drive, not too many guards in camp had the ball on a tight string like Sellers had it. Even driving the ball at a full speed pace he made shifty moves the kept his defenders off balance and on their way to someone’s mixtape. His game had a lot of flash to it but it got the job done, good thing about his moves was he didn’t play with the ball; did what he had to do to get the job done.
Cameron Walker #295- making his way all the way from Atlanta was worth every minute of his trip. Big Cam was a load to handle all weekend, his size strength and speed put him over the edge to dominate every game he played. Looking at his size you would think he was strictly a post, but after every rebound he made, he lead the break to coast to coast points or wide open looks for his teammates.
Elmore James #243- if there was an award for the most valuable hard working player James would be the front runner for it. Every loose ball he and rebound he either got it or made an attempt to get it. He easily averaged 20+ points in his games along with 10+ rebounds, and that hard work carried along to the all-star game where he lead his team in points and rebounds. Elmore hard work and dedication to the game was very fun to watch all weekend.
Tyler Ganley #263- Tyler became a fan favorite from his shifty moves to step back three point shots from long range. He made his presents present whenever he made a move and the cameras were rolling he smiled at the camera to let them know that he was in the building and the world to know who “Tyler Ganley” is. He scored 26 points in a close game with a buzzer beating shot to win a big game for his team. Shot the ball lights out, if there was a three point contest he would have been a favorite to win it.
Detric Hearst #284- wasn’t much that Detric didn’t do, from scoring to rebounding and playing defense earned his spot in the top 20 all star game. A well all around player that didn’t mind not touching the ball, he seen he knows that theres more to just scoring. A winning mindset you can tell with a team first attitude caught people’s attention all camp long.
William Rumple #174- Will got a nick name from the evaluators and that was “Warrior Rumple”. His nickname explained his whole entire game, being undersized didn’t mean much to Will, he got down there with the bigger players grabbing rebounds over there and getting easy put back points. On the defensive end he made stops and took pride in them, defensive rebounds were almost his every time he jumped to get a board. Very good at attacking the basket, drawing fouls and finishing strong. Warrior Rumple is tough and fearless.
Jorden Brooks #286- JB played a lot off the ball at camp, we seen flashes of his handle but it look like he just wanted to shoot the ball and score. Made threes look effortless and when defenders figured out that he is a lights out shooter he pump faked and made plays, either pull jump shots hard takes to the basket or finding a teammate.
Aiden Lal #236- the rebounding machine, if a shot was off and Aiden was on the floor it was almost every time guaranteed his rebound, on the offensive side as well as defensive rebounds. If camp had it were you shot free throws after shooting fouls he would have made his way to the line atleast 7-10 times a game. Going to the line wouldn’t have been a problem making them because when he wasn’t crashing the boards he made wide open 15 foot jump shots.
Sonny Johnson Jr #11- by Sonny having a national buzz he got every ones best hard fought game. You would think he would be under a lot of pressure because of the attention he was getting but that seemed to turn his game up a notch. Every camera that was in the building filmed most of his games and I am sure he made every ones social media, from long three pointers to wicked cross overs. Sonny’s poised demeanor is special and that’s what makes him a national ranked player.
Jalen Brown #154- when you have a god gifted ability like Jalen with his athleticism and uses it to the best of your ability you are guaranteed wins and spots at all star games. Being able to handle the ball with his athleticism secured his spot in the all star game along with big wins in the regular games. With his creative moves at the top of the key lead to hard earned finishes around the rim. Didn’t see to many guards like Jalen getting big block shots in the post and converting his hard nose to defense to track meet layups.
Trey Miller #275- from game one to the all star game Trey played with a swagger that he wasn’t going to be stopped by any one. His shifty moves got the crowds attention
Tavian Tatum #206- long athletic and very versatile. For the past 2 camps Tavian was strictly playing on the post, seems like he's been in the gym working on his game. He's handling the boy more shooting other shots besides layups and guarding other players other than bigs. Can easily say one of the top players in his class.
Dean Horn #266- was solid and steady all weekend. Didn't try and play outside his game and didn't try and force things that weren't there. Without demanding and dominating the all his presence was present.
Brandon Oscar #57- the West Virginia native made his trip up a success. The smooth crafty lefty showed some amazing handles and difficult finishes to the basket. Really liked how poised he played, picked his spots to score and knew when to kick it out for open looks for his teammates.
Zyion Brown #189- got his nickname this weekend from an announcer, "the bully" and when you say his nickname his game explained why they were calling him that. The left hand guard, but his size you would think he played in the post, bullied his way to the basket, for rebounds and locked down smaller defenders. For his size he moves really well and have a nice slick right to left crossover.
Logan Keilin #247- didn't see a shot he didn't like all weekend. Whenever Logan shot the ball you could almost guarantee it was going in. What made his way to the all star game was that he was able to create his own shot off the dribble and knew what shots to take. When a defender hands went down, his shot was going up.
Makhi Elmore #155- everyone knew that Elmore was a lefty and liked to go left, the only thing about them knowing was that they still couldn't stop him from going left. Has a very strong attack game going to the basket, not only was he getting to the rack at ease, but he also had a nice pull up jumper and good court vision.
Jaiden Cox Holloway #173- being long and lanky worked in his favor this weekend. By Jai being long he was able to shoot over small defenders, blow by bigger players and block a lot of shots.
7th Grade Top 40 All Stars
Zadan Abuhamdeh #311- I guess it's in his genes to be a pure scorer. Zadan shot the ball really well not just from three but mid range game was on point as well. Getting to the basket wasn't a problem for him either.
Jackson Falconberry #207- had a up and down weekend in regular games, but had his coming out party in the all star game. Scoring in double figures and having double figures in rebounds. If he stays in attack mode like that all the time Jackson can be good.
Sean Conway #95- had a very unique shift to his game, used the crossover very well on offense. Knows how to get defender off balance and explode mix matches when having them. After nice crossover moves followed nice shots and easy points.
Reginald Walker #259- had very good size, knew how to use his body over small defenders. Finished very well around the basket, and had his hands on every rebound.
Ivery Cotton #186- high motor, never stopped until the whistle was blown. Stayed in attack mode going to the basket, and didn't back down from any defender.
Dushawn Hill #209- playing on a stacked team with some of the top players at camp Hill still stood out and played within the game. The smooth left hand jump shot hit open shots when needed and played extremely good defense.
Brian Whitlow #285- great feel for the game, knows where to be and consistently moved without the ball to get open. Made other people better by setting good screens to get them open and played great help side defense.
Jake DePaul # 252- scored the ball in bunches, from knocking down open mid range jumpers to attacking the basket like a bull. Scoring put Jake in the all star game, but his defense didn't go unnoticed as well.
Akinlano Popoola #43- stayed in attack mode from regular games to the all star game. Seemed like he had a chip on his shoulders going up the better guards, he didn't back down to any of them. Pushing the ball in transition making plays and doing it with some swagger.
Chad Pitzer #204- Chad hung around the basket and got a lot of easy points. Teams where watching his guards so much they forgot Chad been getting easy buckets all weekend long. He knew where to be to finish and his teammates assisted him.
Rodney Holloway #199- ran the floor very well every position, didn't take any plays off. Really good at filling the lanes in transition knowing where to be to get the easy point on the break.
Kayen Niskanen #190- didn't see too many kids at camp that really took pride in crashing the boards like Kayen. It was almost a guaranteed rebound when he went to grab it. After rebounds put backs were money!
Malik Olafioye #90- ran the team like a true point guard,a pass first mentality. Sometimes a little bit too passive but it was just his game, when left open wasn't afraid to knock down shots.
Rakyi Davis #13- was a joy to watch because he did and took pride what nobody likes to do in all star camps; and that's play defense and actually play it the right way. Davis took on teams best all handlers and quote on best players. When you do things other players not doing you always stick out.
Ryan Neal #55- Ryan reminded us of a younger version of Jason "white chocolate" Williams. By far one of the best pure point guards at camp, the passes that were made got reactions that you would of thought they were slam dunks or ankle breaking moves.
Lydell Bird #278- a great last name to match his game, Bird flew through the air to grab rebounds, block shots and attack the basket with nice finishing moves. Very athletic on both ends of the floor, his athleticism on defense turned into athletic finishes on the break.
Kylan Tucker #292- a true winner, can tell he hates to lose, did everything possible to win games and make a all star team. Really impressed with Kylan's hustle, a never give up on any play on the court attitude. Confident in his game even when shots where not falling or missed assignments on defense, never gave up and continued to play hard.
Adam Diaz #236- had a nice all around game, showed he can shoot a 3 when possible, pull up for mid range jumpers and got to the rim. On defense is where he was a work horse, grabbing rebounds and blocking shots, just being in the right spots all the team help him get everything he had earned to turn it into a good offensive possession.
Brennan Salmons #183- with his nice size on him Salmons didn't do anything outside of his game. Like to play inside and very physical, set great ball screens and knew how to roll off of the screens. What got him into the all star game was not doing anything outside of what he did, he knew what he was good at and stuck too it.
Lashon Washington #282- when a player like Washington knows he can shoot and shots don't fall you continue to shoot and eventually shots will start to fall. Well that's what he did, he could miss 2 shots in a row didn't think about those misses and shot the third shot until it went in. Shooter never stop shooting and he didn't.
Jackson Falconberry #207- had a up and down weekend in regular games, but had his coming out party in the all star game. Scoring in double figures and having double figures in rebounds. If he stays in attack mode like that all the time Jackson can be good.
