8th Grade Evaluations
#102- MARCUS JOHNSON- BY FAR THE BEST ALL-AROUND PLAYER IN THE 8TH GRADE THIS WEEKEND. MARCUS CAN DO EVERYTHING FROM PASSING, SCORING, DEFENDING, AND REBOUNDING AT A GUARD POSITION. WHAT STANDS OUT THE MOST ABOUT JOHNSON IS HIS COMPETITIVE DAWG MENTALITY WHILE DOING IT WITH SWAG. TOP PLAYER IN THE 8TH GRADE CLASS BY FAR WHILE BEING ONE OF THE BEST IN THE NATION. NEED NOT TO SAY MORE!!!!
#141-SCOOP SMITH- DON’T WANT TO BE TOO FORWARD, BUT I BELIEVE SCOOP MAY BE THE BEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER I’VE SEEN IN YEARS. IT’S NOT A PLAYER HE CAN’T GUARD AND I MEAN SHUT DOWN GUARD. SPEED, STRENGTH, FOOTWORK, QUICKNESS, AND POSITIONING WHILE DEFENDING IS EXCEPTIONAL. SMITH IS AS DANGEROUS ON THE OFFENSIVE END WITH HIS GRADE A ABILITY TO GET IN THE PAINT AND CAUSE HAVOC BY FINISHING AS WELL AS HAVING A HIGH IQ PASSING THE BALL TO HIS TEAMMATES. ONCE HE DEVELOPS A CONSISTENT OUTSIDE JUMPER, HE BECOMES A TOP 3 PLAYER IN THE NATION. JUST A MATTER OF TIME.
#316-BRAYDEN FOGLE- STILL WAITING ON BRAYDEN TO COME DOWN OUT OF THE AIR. LONG, ATHLETIC BIG WITH HANDLES THAT PLAYS ABOVE THE RIM. THE BIGGEST IMPROVEMENT THAT HAS TURNED FOGLE’S GAME INTO TOPS IN THE NATION, IS THE JUMPER HAS GOTTEN CONSISTENT. NOW YOU COMBINE DEFENDING, REBOUNDING, BLOCKING SHOTS, AND DRIBBLING WITH A JUMP SHOT, PUTS EVERYONE IN 8TH GRADE ON NOTICED IN THE NATION. TOLD YOU ALL BEFORE THAT BRAYDEN DIDN’T KNOW HOW GOOD HE REALLY WAS UNTIL NOW. YOU HEARD IT FIRST HERE, NEXT LEVEL TALENT THAT WILL BE ON TV IN THE FUTURE.
#390-ZACHARIH BELCHER- THE BIGGEST SURPRISE AT THE SHOWCASE THIS WEEKEND. BELCHER CAME OUT OF NOWHERE HITTING JUMPERS, WINDMILL DUNKING, BLOCKING EVERYTHING AND SHOWING EXCEPTIONAL ATHLETIC ABILITY. ZACHARIH DEFENDS, REBOUNDS, AND IS NOT AFRAID TO MIX IT UP WITH THE BEST IN HIS CLASS. RUNS THE FLOOR EXCEPTIONALLY WELL, ALONG WITH FINISHING WITH AGGRESSION. ZACHARIH HAS A CHANCE TO BE SOMETHING SPECIAL.
#576-QUALI PRICE- READY, SET, GO…… DESCRIBES QUALI BEST BECAUSE HE DOESN’T STOP PLAYING UNTIL THE WHISTLE BLOWS. MR. HURRICANE HAS GOOD HANDLES WITH VERY GOOD EXPLOSION THAT HELPS WITH HIS ABILITY TO FINISH AT THE RIM. PRICE HAS A GOOD STROKE THAT HELPS HIM CREATE SPACE TO TAKE PEOPLE OFF THE DRIBBLE. THE BEST THING ABOUT QUALI IS HE WILL DEFEND ANYONE NO MATTER THE NAME. DON’T BE SURPRISED COME HIGH SCHOOL WHEN YOU HEAR THE NAME.
#560-GAVIN JONES- SAVY GUARD WITH EXCELLENT COURT VISION. GAVIN HAS VERY GOOD HANDLES THAT HELPS HIM GET TO ANY SPOT ON THE COURT HE WANTS TO CREATE FOR HIMSELF AND OTHERS. FINISHES WITH EITHER HAND AT THE RIM AS WELL AS PULL UP JUMP SHOT. JONES DEFENDS AT A HIGH LEVEL AND IS NOT AFRAID OF ANYONE TO GUARD. GREAT HANDS AND FEET WHICH MAKES GAVIN A HARD DEFENDER TO GET AROUND.
#248-GAVIN PLACIDE - PROBABLY THE MOST ATHLETIC BIG HERE ON THE WEEKEND. GAVIN IS A BLUR GOING UP AND DOWN THE COURT WITH AN AMAZING ABILITY TO FINISH AT THE RIM. PLACIDE CAN DO IT ALL BY DEFENDING, REBOUNDING, BLOCKING SHOTS, AND SHOOTING. THE BEST TRANSITON PLAYER WITH EXPLOSION IN THE 8TH GRADE CLASS. GAVIN WILL FLY UNDER THE RADAR BUT BEST BELIEVE WE WILL BE TALKING ABOUT HIM LATER DOWN THE ROAD.
#348-KYLE DIXON- KYLE WAS CHOPPING PEOPLE UP ALL WEEKEND. DIXON MAKES EVERYONE AROUND HIM BETTER AND THAT’S RARE TO SEE AT A SHOWCASE. THE MOST UNSELFISH PLAYER AT THE SHOWCASE THIS WEEKEND. KYLE HAS EXCEPTIONAL HANDLES WHICH HELPS HIM GET TO THE PAINT AND CREATE FOR HIMSELF AND OTHERS. DON’T GET IT TWISTED CAUSE DIXON CAN SCORE THE BALL OUTSIDE OF PASSING AS WELL. THE COURT VISION AND BASKETBALL IQ KYLE HAS IS SECOND TO NONE AND THAT WILL TAKE HIM FAR IN THIS GAME.
#317-GALLAGER PLACIDE- GALLAGER DOESN’T QUITE KNOW HOW GOOD HE CAN BE. ONE OF THE BEST ATHLETIC BIGS IN THE 8TH GRADE CLASS THIS WEEKEND. GALLAGER GETS UP AND DOWN THE FLOOR LIKE A GAZELE IN THE WOODS. THE ABILITY TO FINISH AT THE RIM WITH BOTH HANDS SEPARATES FROM ALL THE BIGS ON THE WEEKEND. A VERY GOOD MIDRANGE JUMPER IS IN THE BAG FOR THE SMOOTH BIG AS WELL AS HIS DEFENSE AND REBOUNDING ABILITY. GALLAGER IS VERY QUITE AND HUMBLE BUT WILL MAKE A LOT OF NOISE IN THE FUTURE.
#352-Dolen Felder -displayed an exceptional set of shooting skills as well as court vision. Dolen knows to set up his teammates up when needed and when to attack the basket when needed. Felder’s ability to attack the basket and finish with either hand at the rim made it very difficult for defenders to keep him in front of them. Dolen’s ability to attack, set up his strongest asset which was shooting from the outside. By far one of the top shooters in the 8th grade division this weekend.
#335-Jordan Quince- Can do it all from handles, driving to the hole, finish strongly with either hand, and passes the ball with exceptional vision. Can get to the rim whenever he wants with a great ability to change directions to get to the paint to finish, which is Jordan’s strong suit. Quince can create his own shot off the dribble with ease but his passing is what was the most impressive along with some stout defense. Can rebound the ball and start the break himself and finish with the best. Definitely one of the Top – 8th graders on the weekend.
#231-T.J. Crumble- was a Big that could do it all on both ends of the floor. T.J. was displaying all his skills this weekend from scoring, passing, defending, dribbling, and IQ. He was a rebounding machine who finishes well around the rim with a lot of physicality. Crumble, at times, showed guard skills in a big man’s body. T.J. really showed why he is one of the best big men in the 8th grade division this weekend.
#377- Victor Guaramato- is a very strong guard that can get to the bucket pretty much whenever he wants. A good finisher at the rim and can create well for others. Victor is what I call the freight train of the 8th graders cause he’s a load when in attack mode. He displayed a great set of ball handling skills for a big guard as well as an elite shot. His combo ability will only get better as he gets older, bigger, and stronger. Look for Guaramato to be a problem come High School next year.
#302-Kenyon Crowe -an elite defender that is scrappy and tough on the defense end of the floor. Not the biggest person on the court to defend people but that doesn’t stop him from taking on any challenge to lock someone up. Crowe was simply everywhere the ball was this weekend and seldom missed a midrange shot or layup. Very unselfish by creating for others to get them shots but also got his own shots. Easily one of the top defenders along with pure hustle this weekend, but his overall play got him in the Top 20 of the 8th grade division.
#431-Theo Castro- displayed a ton of great ball handling and finishing skill at the rim. Theo was very explosive attacking the basket while finishing in traffic. Castro was very aggressive and played both ends of the floor. Theo showed why he was one of the top guards in the 8th grade division often and early with his play from the very first game. A big thing Theo showed was his court vision and control of the game to attack gaps to get where he needed. Skies the limit for Castro and we look forward to seeing him in the future.
#555-Kieren Daniel- Plays both ends of the floor at a high level. Didn’t matter the player, Kieren was willing to guard them the whole game. Daniel’s created well for others and didn’t mind sharing the ball to get buckets. Very impressed how he handled the ball with his weak hand to get himself into the paint to finish or make plays at the rim. Would love to see Kieren be more aggressive to score in the midrange area because he could do it at a high clip when he sets his mind to do it. Daniel hasn’t come near scratching the surface of how good he can be and the 8th grade division is on noticed because of his play this weekend.
#190-Jaxyn Cruse -I think Jaxyn is still running up and down the court and it’s not a game going on. Cruse reminds you of a silent assassin when he plays. Even with being non-stop up and down the floor, he is very fundamental with a high IQ of the game. Jab steps, shot fakes, pivot foot, handles with either hand, is such a rarity to see in these days. What separated Jaxyn from the rest is he picked up everyone all weekend from rim to rim to defend them. That alone, with his exceptional offensive skill set, put him in the top 20.
#416- Rashod Cotton -the X factor!!!! Rashod owned the paint as well as the perimeter this weekend. By far the most under the radar player this weekend, was Rashod Cotton. What all can I say about the California Killa because he literally can do it all from handling the rock, rebounding, passing, defending, but most impressive, was his jump shot. Cotton’s range was when he walked in the gym. It was a consistent long range fireworks show this weekend but that’s not the kicker, Rashod can get to the rim just as good as any guard in the 8th grade division this weekend. Rashod Cotton put all the 8th grade division on notice this weekend and will not be surprised when his name come up in the near future as a top player in the country if he keeps working.
#210-Darek Whitfield -Talk about extreme confidence in his ability, Darek defines confidence and toughness. Exceptional ball handler with a knack for change of direction that allows him to get in the paint and finish with many different angles. It’s Whitfield ability to stroke the outside jumper to help set up his favorite floater that he continued to hit this weekend when in the paint. Darek never backdown from defending anyone despite his small stature which shows you he has a heart of a lion. As Whitfield continues to get bigger, stronger, and faster in years to come, his game will surpass the few that’s ahead of him right now. Watch out 8th grade division cause Darek Whitfield is lurking………
#326 -Jayden Riley - is a lockdown defender with a great basketball IQ. Jayden has great court vision and attacks the rim very well while finishing with either hand. The best ability Riley showed was that toughness on the defensive end of the floor by making it very difficult for his opponent to score the basketball. His defense alone put him in the top tier of defenders in the 8th grade and there was quite a few. What went under the radar this weekend for Jayden, was his ability to make play after play on the offensive end. He was the Smooth Criminal this weekend but made a lot of noise. Jayden is just getting started folks!!!!
