5th Grade Evaluations
NEO Top 20 All-Stars- 5th Grade 2021 February Showcase
#134-Malakye Bowen - displayed a ton of great ball handling and finishing skill at the rim. Malakye was very explosive attacking the basket while finishing in traffic. He was very unselfish and played both ends of the floor. Malakye showed why he was one of the top guards in the 5th grade division often and early with his play from the very first game. A big key thing Malakye showed was his court vision and control of the game. Skies the limit for Malakye and we look forward to seeing him in the future
#81-Melki Roddy -was a Big that could do it all on both ends of the floor. Melkhi was displaying all of his skills this weekend from scoring, passing, defending, dribbling, and IQ. He was a rebounding machine who finishes well around the rim with a lot of physicality. Melkhi at times showed guard skills in a big man’s body. Melkhi really showed why he is one of the best big men in the 5th grade division this weekend.
#117-Dejuan Hunter -is a lockdown defender with a great basketball IQ. Dejuan has great court vision and attacks the rim very well while finishing with either hand. The best ability Dejuan showed was that toughness of the defensive end of the floor by making it very difficult for his opponent to score the basketball. His defense alone put him in the top tier of defenders in the 5th grade and there were quite a few.
#70-Amara Freeman -displayed a good set of shooting skills as well as court vision. Amara knows to set up his teammates up when needed and when to attack the basket when needed. Amara’s ability to attack the basket and finish with either hand at the rim made it very difficult for defenders to keep him in front of them. The ability to attack set up his strongest asset which was shooting from the outside. By far one of the top shooters in the 5th grade division this weekend.
#366-Carl Pittman Jr. -Carl is a very strong guard that can get to the bucket pretty much whenever he wants. A good finisher at the rim and can create well for others. Carl is what I call the Charles Barkley of 5th graders cause he’s a load when in attack mode. He displayed a great set of ball handling skills for a big guard. His combo ability will only get better as he gets older, bigger, and stronger. Look for Carl to be a problem come middle school.
#94- Darrius Hawkins -When I say he made it look easy, I mean he made it look too easy. By far one of the best all-around players this weekend. His vision, handles, IQ, unselfishness, ability to finish at the rim, strength, defense, are just a few things Darrius displayed on a regular. The thing that stood out the most about Darrius is he never allowed anyone to take him out of his game. Easily Top 5 Player in the 5th grade division, maybe top 2. I can’t wait to see and hear about Darrius in the near future cause he will be one that everyone is talking about.
#44-Kaylen Brooks -I think Kaylen is still running up and down the court and it’s not a game going on. Speedy Gonzalez is what he reminds of when I watch Kaylen play. Even with being non-stop up and down the floor, he is very fundamental with a high IQ of the game. Jab steps, shot fakes, pivot foot, handles with either hand, is such a rarity at this age to get players to do. Exceptional shooter from long range which really sets up his ability to drive and finish in the lane with either hand. Can’t wait to see his development once his size catches up with that motor Kaylen has.
#96-Angelo Adams -Talk about extreme confidence in his ability, Angelo defines confidence and toughness. Exceptional ball handler with a knack for change of direction that allows him to get in the paint and finish with many different angles. It’s Angelo’s ability to stroke the outside jumper to set up his paint touches on a regular. One thing you don’t say to Angelo from the crowd, is tell his defensive opponent to lock him up. This will get someone embarrassed on the hardwood. Top 10 players in the 5th grade division this weekend for sure.
#119-Kingston Hunt -Anyone that was a killer guard this weekend, ran into Kingston and got shut down. I mean every guard that could play had no luck with Kingston. The epitome of a lockdown defender was Kingston this weekend. Lateral quickness, great feet, & defensive angle positioning really helps him defend some of the elite guards in his grade. But that’s not all Kingston can do, he’s also so a dawg on the offensive end of the floor as well. Producing as a floor general, unselfishness, shooting, and ability to attack the rim with either hand, propelled him to top 10, maybe top 5, status this weekend in the 5th grade division.
#26-Oharreus Waller -drives to the hole with a purpose to make a basketball play. Oharreus is great off the dribble to shoot or get to the bucket to score. Very high IQ with an unselfishness that I love to see at this age. A very smooth game with an above average jumper that keeps defenders on edge. Oharreus has a chance to be special.
#45-Elijah Coates -strong defender that moves his feet with a balanced stance without using his hands to defend. This is a very hard thing for players Elijah age to do is play defense with no hands but he is a rare one. Seemed to be more interested in defending people from scoring or passing dimes. Extremely quick and very strong guard who rebounds at a high clip. Gets up and down the floor in a short amount of time with the ball in hand. When he becomes more aggressive with his ability to handle the ball with his quickness, Elijah will be a problem to keep out of the paint.
#141-Wayd Bailey -they say big things come from Texas, Wayd Bailey packed a big punch while being a small thing from Texas. Wayd showed why he is one of the top 5th graders around with his all-around play on display this weekend. A very quick and skilled guard that can flat out score the basketball from any position on the floor. Wayd is also very unselfish with excellent court vision that is on the level of some older grades. He created well for others as well as himself all weekend which showed he is fundamental with his game. Top 10-5th grader this weekend by far, probably Top 5.
#58-Ezenwa Nwagwa -an elite defender that is scrappy and tough on the defense end of the floor. Not the biggest person to defend people but that doesn’t stop him from taking on any challenge to lock someone up. Ezenwa attacks the rim at a high level on the offensive end with his ability to handle the rock. Very unselfish by creating for others to get them shots but also to get his own shots. Easily one of the top defenders this weekend but his overall play got him in the Top 20 of the 5th grade division.
#71- Denzel Osazuwa -very physical big man that plays hard all the time on both ends of the floor. Denzel doesn’t know the meaning of taking a play off which keeps him around the ball at all times. Exceptional rebounder that runs the floor and finishes at the rim with an aggression. The high motor he has keeps him in plays whether it’s a deflection, loose ball, help defense, or getting teammates open for shots. Prime example of a hustle player if I ever saw one.
#142- Jace Anderson -created shots for himself and others off the dribble with the best in his grade this weekend. Jace's ability to shoot from the outside helps him get into the paint even though he is small in stature. Can defend at a high level as well which showed his all-around
game. Jace is an aggressive, quick, and smart player with tons of energy. Communicating with teammates all weekend was the biggest attribute to see from Jace.
#118-Landon Ecckles -very unselfish player who controls tempo with the best of them. Landon has great court awareness along with good handles. Landon was making plays all weekend on offense and defensive end of the floor. Runs the floor with space and pace and doesn’t back down from a defensive assignment. There is a sneaky ability about Landon that is just waiting to come out. Stay tuned.
#49-Marlen Jackson -Can do it all from handles, driving to the hole, finish strongly with either hand, and pass the ball with exceptional vision. Can get to the rim whenever he wants with a great ability to change directions to get to the paint to finish, which is Marlen’s strong suit. Marlen can create his own shot off the dribble with ease but his passing is what was the most impressive along with some stout defense. Can rebound the ball and start the break himself and finish with the best. Definitely one of the Top 5 – 5thgraders on the weekend.
#370-Josiah Hall -the space eater!!!! Josiah owned the paint this weekend. Running rim to rim while dominating the glass on both ends. Josiah always stayed in position to receive a pass from one of the penetrating guards so he could score. But here is the most impressive part about Josiah is when he rebounds the ball, he looks to outlet it to the guards, but once they can’t get open, space eater takes you coast to coast with big man handles to finish at the rim. It's a big man’s world and we are just living in it with Josiah Hall!!
#148-Josiah Moore – strong and tough defender that really gets in your chest when guarding you. Very strong with the ball when driving with a grown man finishes at the cup. Josiah shows a very good basketball IQ as he communicates on defense to get everyone in position to succeed. Josiah also showed great leadership on the offensive end making sure teammates shared the ball and got great shots from sharing. Perfect example of what coaches want out of all their players.
#108- Benjamin Thomas -Plays both ends of the floor at a high level. Didn’t matter to the player, Benjamin was willing to guard them the whole game. Benjamin created well for others and doesn’t mind sharing the ball to get buckets. Very impressed how he handled the ball with his weak hand to get himself into the paint to finish or make plays at the rim. Would love to see Benjamin be more aggressive to score cause he could do so at a high clip when he sets his mind to do it.
Very smooth game and could be a mismatch for any wing he faces. Can dribble the ball like a point guard and has vision like one. He also used his length and athleticism very well to grab rebound after rebound on the defensive and offensive end. One of the most talented players at the camp.
Derek Whiteside:
Derek used his speed to find the open man countless times. He makes it easier on his team with his pace and decision making. He put pressure on the defense in just about every game he was in. He used his floater effectively as well. One of the best pure point guards at the camp.
Noah Simpson:
Was A Sleeper At the camp but I’m sure he won’t be again. He Put Constant Pressure On The Defense When He Gets Downhill. He Made the right play and pass if he wasn’t finishing the play his self with great vision and IQ.
Luke Fawns:
Rebounding machine keeping plays alive . Changed shots constantly in every game he played in. He Also followed stops showing he can run the floor to finish above the rim. When he had to guard smaller guards it wasn’t a issue as he displayed great feet for a big his size and age. Luke Fawns will be household name once he grows into his full potential which we could be seeing soon.
8th Grade Evaluations
Neo Youth Elite Top 20 (8th Grade)
176 Anthony Smith III - One of the top competitors at the camp. Smooth handle and a crafty finisher. Can shoot it with range and gets to the rack with ease.
158 Antonio Munoz – A STAR in the making! When you combine size, athleticism, creativity, and high skillset together… you get Antonio Munoz. He had dunk after dunk and was a crowd favorite all weekend. Must see T.V.
111 Marcus Johnson – You crowd him and he’ll get by you, give him space and he’ll let it fly, double him and he’ll find the open man. What was most impressive is that he shows little emotion when doing it as if it’s effortless! You can tell Marcus puts in work behind the scene. Need I mention he’s a lefty.
174 Fitta Jafar – Catch and shoot! Finishes in transition! Guards all 5 positions! The list goes on! This kid can do it all!
250 Memphis McDowell – If Memphis is under the radar now, he will not be for long! He is extremely crafty with the handle and very poised for his age. I wouldn’t be surprised if he steps into a starting role as a freshman at the guard position.
277 Alier Maluk – Length on length on length! He stretches out to stand about 6’7 with a “Greek Freak like” wingspan. Dunks the ball, protects the rim, runs the floor, and has a nice looking outside shot. Alier has a very high ceiling (no pun intended)
319 Machaon Savedra – Earned a nickname this weekend at the NEO and that says A LOT. “Pistol Pete” played with flare and displayed unlimited range. Definitely fun to watch and a true competitor.
376 Brady Peery – Bucket!!! Can score on all 3 levels. His strength and motor are simply overpowering. Easily one of the top performers this weekend at the NEO.
368 Marlo Moore – Illinois seems to be home to a lot of top prospects. Marlo is another one to add to the list. He has an above average handle and a true floor general. He can make plays for his teammates or himself.
267 Elijah Walton – Kentucky has a big time prospect in Elijah Walton. He is very lengthy, a big time rim protector, and a glass cleaner.
332 Zy’Aire Weaver – Zy’Aire is an aggressive downhill guard. He keeps defenders on theirs heels and has the ability to finish in traffic. His pace creates problems for defenders and his vision and IQ make him and elite guard.
